Haltwhistle Bastle House 3 was originally a 16th/17th century stone two storey fortified farmhouse. The bastle has been incorporated in a two storey house, with a cast-iron pillar, supporting the heavy first floor wall and the upper cruck roof. Within the strong walls, farmers and reivers found security for their livestock on the ground floor and for their family above.
