Haltwhistle
Bastle House 5 was originally a 16th/17th century stone two storey fortified farmhouse.
The bastle has been incorporated in a two storey house but the massive stones
of its boulder plinth, can still be seen. Within the strong walls, farmers and
reivers found security for their livestock on the ground floor and for their family
above. Nearby are Haltwhistle Castle, Haltwhistle
Tower and Haltwhistle Bastle 1-4.
Haltwhistle Bastle House 5 is located in the town centre, off Main Street. 21 miles north-east of Carlisle, on the A69.
The site is visible from the road.
There is a car park.
