Holdgate Castle Holdgate Castle is an 11th century earthwork motte and bailey fortress, founded by Helgot de Reisolent. Crowning the high circular motte are the foundations of walls and a rectangular tower. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, a farm now stands in the bailey and it retains a large 13th century semi-circular flanking tower. 3 miles south-west is Broncroft Castle and 5 miles north-west is Rushbury Castle.

The site is visible from the road.
