Holdgate CastleHoldgate Castle is an interesting stone motte and bailey fortress, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book. On the high motte are the foundations of walls and a rectangular tower. A farm now stands in the bailey and it retains a large 13th century semi-circular flanking tower. 3 miles south-west is Broncroft Castle and 5 miles north-west is Rushbury Castle.
