Dodleston
Castle is a Norman earthwork motte and bailey fortress, founded by Osberne fitz
Tezzon. The base of the flat-topped motte is encased by a ditch, with a counterscarp bank,
while a wide wet ditch, gives defence to the large square bailey. The dense cover
of trees, make the site best viewed in winter. 2 miles south-east is Pulford
Castle and 4 miles north-east is Chester Castle.
Dodleston
Castle is located in the village centre, off Church Croft. 4 miles south-west
of Chester, on the A483.
The
site is visible from the church.
