Old Soar Manor Plaxtol
TQ 619-541 Kent England

Old Soar ManorOld Soar Manor was originally a late 13th century fortified manor house, founded by the Culpeper of Aylesford family. Sadly all that survives, is a large stone two storey solar block, which was altered in the 14th century. On the angles at the outer corners of the first floor solar, are a chapel and a large garderobe with cross-loops. The barrel-vaulted undercroft also have cross-loops for defence and light and leading to the solar is a timbered spiral staircase. Attached to the south west side of the solar block and on the site of the aisled hall, is an 18th century brick farmhouse. 3 miles west at Ivy Hatch is Ightham Mote and 5 miles south is Tonbidge Castle.
