Old Walmer Court
TR 367-504 Kent England

Old Walmer CourtOld Walmer Court was originally a Norman defensible manor house, founded by Auberville family. In the 12th century, Hugh de Auberville founded the roughly square, first floor hall house, which was flanked on the angles, by turrets. On the west side, an external stair gave access to a forebuilding, at first floor level. Both the hall house and the adjacent Blessed Mary of Walmer church, were originally encased a moat. The flint rubble walls, of the two undercrofts and a fragmentary upper floor, stand ruined and overgrown, adjoining the churchyard wall. A mile east is Walmer Castle and 7 miles west is Coldred Court.
