Lochside Motte is probably a natural hillock, which slopes upwards on all sides at a comparatively easy gradient. Although it could be a large low earthwork motte, the fact that it was at one time almost surrounded by the waters of a loch, makes this unlikely. The site is now descheduled. Half a mile north-east is Kirkhill Mote and 2 miles south-east is Dumfries Castle.
