Pitcruvie Castle
NO 413-046 Fife Scotland

Pitcruvie Castle Pitcruvie Castle was originally a late 15th century stone rectangular three storey tower house, founded by Lord Lindsay of the Byres. Built of dressed stone with rubble filling, its original first floor entrance was sealed, when a small later stair-wing was added to the north-east angle. With a barrel vaulted basement and a vaulted first floor hall, this L-plan tower house shows signs of being reconstructed in a slightly difference building style. There are only slight remains of its stair-wing and the castle is now a romantic ruin. 3 miles west at Leven is Aithernie Castle and 12 miles north-east is St Andrews Castle.
