Glamis Castle was originally a royal hunting lodge, with a stone 14th century three storey keep. In the 16th century, it was altered to make a five storey L-plan tower house, which was then absorbed, in the construction of a 17th century baronial mansion. 13 miles east is Guthrie Castle.
Glamis Castle is located north of the Glamis, off the A928. 12 miles north of Dundee, on the A90-A928.
The site is the ancestral home of The Earl of Strathmore and is open daily, April to October 10:00-6:00pm, November and December 10:30-4:30pm, check website for details.
