Drum Castle is an early 13th century stone square keep and courtyard fortress, founded by the Irvine family. Of four storeys and crowned by a corbelled-out parapet with open rounds, there may also have been a garret. In the early 17th century, a Jacobean L-shaped mansion house of three storeys and a garret was added, which was then extended with Victorian additions in 1875. 5 miles south-west is Crathes Castle and 11 miles south-east is Muchalls Castle.
