Ravensworth
Castle French Hall
NZ 233-591 County Durham England
Ravensworth
Castle is a 14th century stone quadrangular enclosure fortress, founded by the
Lumley family. Sadly only two ruinous towers and a section of curtain wall remain,
after the Liddell family added a large 18th century Gothic house, which is now
very dilapidated. 4 miles north is Newcastle
Castle and 9 miles east is Hylton Castle.
Ravensworth
Castle is located south of French Hall, off Cross Lane. 5 miles south of Newcastle
upon Tyne, on the A189-A692.
The
site is private and the view from the road is
very restricted.
