Earthwork Langton
SE 794-670 Yorkshire England

Earthwork LangtonThere is a large earthwork platform to the west of Langton but its date and function are unknown. Standing against the slope of Clombe Beck, the large irregular-shaped, near-level platform is encased by a deep ditch-like feature. The remains could represented some form of extension to the present village of Langton, possibly a garth. There was a castle recorded at Langton in the medieval period and these may be its remains. Sadly the site has been eroded by hollow ways and tracks so that its plan and form are unclear. Nearby is a low flat-topped earthwork and 4 miles north is Malton Castle.
