The Mount Corfton
SO 497-847 Shropshire England

The Mount The Mount is a Norman earthwork motte and bailey fortress, which overlooks Corve Dale to the south-east. Standing at the north-east end of a low ridge, the oval flat-topped motte is crowned by a low bank around the southern half of its summit. Its ditch remains on the north and east sides but elsewhere it has been destroyed by the encroachment of farm buildings. On the east side is a roughly rectangular bailey and from the motte a low south-west to north-east bank splits it in two. The ground surface of the bailey, contains irregular earthworks which probably relates to its occupation. 2 miles east is Corfham Castle and 3 miles south at Culmington is Camp Ring.
