Domen Gastell Welshpool
SJ 230-074 Montgomeryshire Wales
Domen Gastell is a 12th century earthwork motte and bailey fortress, which has been damaged in the making of a bowling green. The small irregular motte stands on the southern edge of an oval bailey, which still retains parts of its rampart and ditch. The motte has a dense cover of trees, so it is best viewed in winter. A mile south-west is Powis Castle.
Domen Gastell is located in Welshpool, off Smithfield Road. 19 miles west of Shrewsbury, on the A458-A483.
The view from the road is very restricted.
Car parking is by the side of the road.
