Founded by Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, in 1282-95, the town walls and castle of Denbigh were erected simultaneously. The walls are one of the most complete circuits in Britain but now they encase a largely open triangular area, after the town migrated onto the flatter ground below. Flanked by two twin towered gatehouses and four other towers, its north-east section supports a preserved wall-walk and is an attractive walk, with very fine views. The walls are owned by Cadw and are open daily, 10:00-4:00pm.
