Burlow Castle

Burlow Castle Burlow Castle is a indeterminate earthwork, which could be the site of a 12th century motte and bailey fortress. On its large platform, fragments of 12th and 13th century pottery, along with Prehistoric flints from all periods have been found. Built on a steeply-sided promontory, on the banks of the River Cockmere, its defend the approach along the ridge. Nearby is The Rookery and 10 miles north-west is Lewes Castle.

Burlow Castle is located west of Milton Street, off Lewes Road. 8 miles north-west of Eastbourne, on the A2270-A27.

The site is visible from a public footpath, which passes the castle from Lewes Road.

Car parking is by the side of the road.
