In the morning of the 14th of October 1066, William, Duke of Normandy began his fight for the crown of England, when launching an attack on King Harold and the Saxon army, positioned at the top of Senlac Ridge. By the afternoon, the battle had ground to a stalemate but before nightfall, legend says, that an arrow mortally wounded King Harold in the eye. With the Saxons defeated, the Duke of Normandy became King William I of England.
