Tower of London
TQ 336-804 Greater London England

Tower of LondonTower of London is a world famous concentric stone palace-fortress and prison, which has been continuously added to over the centuries. In the middle of the inner bailey curtain wall with its thirteen round flanking towers, is the majestic White Tower built 1078 to 1097, on the site of an earlier castle and is one of the largest great towers in the UK. The outer bailey curtain wall has six flanking towers and a complex water-gate (Traitors Gate). The western entrance was defended by two round-towered gatehouses across the wet moat, a D-shaped barbican and a large brick Bulwark. In the inner bailey, the Bloody Tower, Wakefield Tower and the block, have seen many violent deaths. North of the moat is part of the town wall. 8 miles south-east is Eltham Palace and 15 miles south-west is Hampton Court Palace.
