Annan
Castle is a 12th century earthwork motte and bailey, built too close to
the River Annan, the western half has been eroded away. The motte has
a wide ditch around its base and the long bailey retains its rampart and
ditch. 9 miles west is Comlongon Castle.
Annan Castle is located in the town centre, off High Street in a public park. 18 miles north-west of Carlisle on the A74-B721.
The site is freely accessible in daylight hours. There is a car park (Everholm) by the side of the river and castle.
