Isle Tower is an early 17th century stone T-plan tower house, founded by Edward Maxwell of Isle. Of three storey, with a centrally projecting stair-wing, the entrance was in the re-entrant angle. Sadly only the northern half of this small tower remains to any height but it still shows that the unvaulted basement had double splayed shot-holes. Protected on three sides by the Lochar Water, the wet ditch which defended the south-western side is now lost. 2 miles south is Caerlaverock Castle and 5 miles north-west is Dumfries Castle.
Isle Tower is located north of Bankend, off Bankend Road. 6 miles south-east of Dumfries, on the B725.
