Venlaw Castle
NT 253-412 Peeblesshire Scotland

Venlaw Castle Smithfield Castle was originally a 14th century fortification, founded by the Hays of Smithfield. In the 18th and 19th century, the total reconstruction of the castle and grounds, destroyed the medieval fortress but it left us with Venlaw Castle, a dramatic baronial mansion. Visit pending. 2 miles south-west is Neidpath Castle and 2 miles south-east is Horsburgh Tower.
