Linlithgow Palace Gateway
NT 002-773 West Lothian Scotland

Linlithgow Palace GatewayLinlithgow Palace Gateway is a mid 16th century stone single storey outer gateway, founded by King James V. Part of a new ceremonial route to Linlithgow Palace, the rectangular ornamented gate is adorned with four central carved and painted panels of King James V chivalric orders. Lacking a drawbridge, the only symbols of defence are gun-ports in the two polygonal angle towers, which flank the ribbed barrel vault of the entrance.
