Scalloway Castle

Scalloway Castle Scalloway Castle is a 17th century stone L-plan tower house, founded by Patrick Stewart, earl of Orkney who was notorious for his cruelty. The main block is of four storeys and a garret, with a smaller square wing, that has a large corbelled stair-turret, on one angle. Visit pending. 24 miles south is Jarlshof House.

Scalloway Castle is located in the town centre, off Castle Road. 5 miles west of Lerwick, on the A970. For travel information go to Visit Shetland.

The site is owned by Historic Scotland and the key to the castle is available Monday to Saturday, from the Shetland Woollen Company shop and on Sunday from the Royal Hotel 9:30-5:00pm.

There is a car park.
