Scalloway
Castle is a 17th century stone L-plan tower house, founded by Patrick Stewart,
earl of Orkney who was notorious for his cruelty. The main block is of four storeys and a garret, with a smaller
square wing, that has a large corbelled stair-turret, on one angle. Visit pending.
24 miles south is Jarlshof House.
Scalloway Castle is located in the town centre, off Castle Road. 5 miles west of Lerwick, on the A970. For travel information go to Shetland.org.
