Borve Castle is possibly a mid 14th century stone rectangular hall house, founded by Amy MacRuari. Of at least three periods, the building of the square tower to the east could be even earlier. A stronghold of the Macdonalds of Benbecula, the three storey castle was occupied until 1625 or later. The entrance was in the south wall and except for a window at the west end of the south wall, there are hardly any other visible features. Picture © Neil Goodwin
