Foulis Castle was originally a 12th century earthwork fortress, founded by the Munros. They also founded the 16th century stone tower house, pierced by gunloops, that the Jacobites destroyed in the 18th century. Later in the century, the remains of the tower and the courtyard were absorbed in the construction of a Georgian baronial mansion.
