Leppington is probably a fortified moated manor house, founded by the Corey family. The large raised platform is roughly oval in plan and is encased by the remains of its wide moat. The manorial complex was presumably abandoned in the post-medieval period and farm buildings have damaged the west side the moat. A mile east is Acklam Castle and 10 miles north-west is Sheriff Hutton Motte.
Leppington is located in the village centre, north of Acres Lane. 13 miles north-east of York, on the A116.
The site is visible from a public footpath, which passes the earthworks from the church.
Car parking is by the side of the road.
