Gilmorton Castle
SP 570-879 Leicestershire England

Gilmorton Castle Gilmorton Castle is a large flat-topped Norman earthwork motte, encased by a wide wet ditch. Leading westward, from the low motte, are the remains of a wet ditch, which could indicate a possible position of a bailey. To the west, of this timber castle, is a medieval moated platform and two rectangular fishponds. 6 miles south is Shawell Castle and 7 miles north-west is Sapcote Castle.
