Hobs Moat is a 12th century fortified manor house, founded by William de Odingsells. The large rectangular earthwork platform, is powerfully encased by a rampart, a wide ditch and a counterscarp bank. Excavations of this fine example of a medieval moated homestead, revealed 13th century occupation. 8 miles west is Weoley Castle and 8 miles south-east is Baddesley Clinton Hall.
Hobs Moat is located in Olton, off Hobs Moat Road. 7 miles south-east of Birmingham, on the A45-B425.
The site is owned by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and is freely accessible in daylight hours.
Car parking is by the side of the road.
