The Mound Morley Moor
SK 392-409 Derbyshire England
The Mound is a medieval earthwork motte, possibly founded by the de Ferrers family. The conical flat-topped motte is encased by a wide wet ditch and to the south-east is a causeway that crosses the ditch. The motte has a dense cover of trees, so its best view is in winter and the position of the bailey has been lost. 3 miles north-west is Horston Castle and 6 miles south-west is Mackworth Castle.
The Mound is located on Morley Moor, off the A608. 5 miles north-east of Derby,
on the A608.
The
site is visible from a public footpath, which passes the motte from the A608.
