Orford Castle is an impressive 12th century stone keep and bailey fortress, with a uniquely designed central keep. Flanking this eighteen sided Norman keep are three square turrets and a forebuilding, all with a labyrinth of chambers and passages. Of the curtain wall with its square flanking towers, only fragments of the foundations now remain. The surrounding banks and double ditches have been disturbed but they still indicate the layout of the bailey. 13 miles north-west is Framlingham Castle.
