The Great Gate of Bury St Edmunds Benedictine Abbey is an impressive 14th century stone gatehouse and was designed to be the gateway for the Great Courtyard. One of the best surviving examples of its type, this two storey gate-hall is entered through a single archway which retains its portcullis. Nearby is the Norman Tower.
The Great Gate is located in the city centre, off Angel Hill. 28 miles east of Cambridge, on the A14.
The site is owmed by English Heritage and is freely accessible in daylight hours.
